"Kevin's Kayak". Pastel, 10 x 15"
Today I revisited the pastel painting I did on in August on my friend Kevin's birthday (Day 244). I wasn't satisfied with it back then. I wanted to make it a bit more painterly -- less enslaved to the original photo. I simplified it a bit, cropped off the bottom to get the horizon line away from the midpoint (a composition no-no), and applied pastel more thickly. I like it somewhat better now, although It's hard to capture the mood of the original image.
