Day 151

Title TBD. Mixed media on watercolour paper, 20 x 28"

Decided to try another piece like the one from Day 119... which was based on a journal page entitled "Under the Weather" from Day 96 when I wasn't feeling well. Now today while I was working on this piece I started to feel under the weather again. Hmmm.

Day 149

Day 149

I am lucky to have a beautiful lilac in my back yard which is currently in full bloom, so I tried to give an impression of it in my art journal today.

Day 148

Art journal, miscellaneous sketches and doodles in ink

I went to the (amazing) dance show at my daughter's school this evening and spent some of the first half doing blind gesture drawings in the dark, only to discover when the lights came up that my pen hadn't been working. So the doodles bottom left are from trying to get my pen to work, then in the middle are a few blind gesture drawings from the second half of the show, and lastly a few quickie sketches of subway riders on the trip home.

Day 147

"Spinning Yarns"  Art journal, watercolour, yarns and rice paper

Working at weaver Lucille Crighton's studio, I can never resist bringing home the leftover bits and pieces of the fabulous yarns she uses, with a view to using them in my art somehow. Today I took a step in that direction with this little experiment.

Day 146

"Happy Place"  Art journal, collaborative doodle in ink

I was at a pub with my sister Diane and three other women watching the Raptors game. Started my art journal page by passing the book around the table and having them all add something (one depicted herself in her "happy place", hence the title). Then I fleshed it out.

Day 144

Title TBD. Watercolour collage, 14 x 19"

I decided to try a watercolour "doodle" on a larger scale (full sheet of watercolour paper, 22x30") but I didn't like it. So I cut it up and reassembled it like this. I suppose it's a bit like fireworks -- appropriate for Victoria Day!

Day 143

"Dance Craze"  Art journal, watercolour and ink

I felt a bit discouraged and depressed today and resisted art-making all day. I finally forced myself to face the blank page of my art journal. I started by painting the letters JDI (Just Do It) and somehow ended up here.

Day 142

"First Rhubarb"  Art journal, ink and watercolour

My mother was so excited about getting the first rhubarb of the year at the farmers' market, she emailed a picture of it to the family. So I did this little sketch of it.

Day 141

"View from the Couch"  Art journal, ink

Sketch featuring my snazzy Kenneth Cobonpue chair, my guitar, and (unusually) my iron and ironing board.

Day 140: CAA Magazine Challenge #3

"Car Pool"  Art journal, magazine collage

The latest issue of the CAA (Canadian Auto Association) Magazine arrived in my mailbox this week, so I took on my usual challenge: choose whichever images grab me and put them together somehow. So what am I trying to say here, you ask? Beats me, but I hope you can spot the rationale for the title.

By the way: challenge #1 was on Day 7, and #2 on Day 37.

Day 139

"Brouhaha"  Art journal, watercolour

I hear there was quite the brouhaha today in the House of Commons; seemed like as good a title as any for tonight's wacky watercolour doodle in my art journal.

Day 138

"Play Date"  Art journal, watercolour

Nothing like messing around with watercolours at the end of a busy day!

Day 136

"GO Train Adventures"  Art journal, ink

Today I did some sketches while waiting for and riding the GO train.

Day 135

"View of Stacey's bedroom doorway from the head of her bed"  Art journal, ink

I was hanging out with her while she tidied up her room. ;-)

Day 134

"Gold Rush"  Art journal, mixed media

I would like to try another mixed media piece like the one from Day 119, but maybe with a different colour palette. This is a test run of purples (etc.).

Day 133

"True Colours"  Art journal, magazine collage

It's been a while since I did a magazine collage, so I thought I would try one today. Once again, wackiness ensued from combining National Geographic with fashion magazines. In a way, it expresses how I feel about the latter.

Day 132

"Buttons!"  Art journal, watercolour and ink.

I spent much of the last two days at work at Lucille Crighton's studio, helping her to sort and organize a large shipment of buttons. Not just any buttons, but beautiful, handmade glass and ceramic buttons, little works of art in themselves.
