Day 129: Mothers Day

My mother, Edna, is a real dynamo: super smart, extremely generous, vivacious, fun, beautiful... no less so now at the age of 83 than she has always been. I love her very much.

This portrait is doing triple duty: it celebrates Mothers Day because it's of my mother and my first-born daughter, Kayla, and it fulfills my promise to do belated birthday portraits of them (their birthdays were April 21 and 23).

I am always amazed, when working on a portrait, what a difference the tiniest mark can make. My new job of sewing has had me wondering if I'm due for an eye examination (has the eye of a needle always been so tiny?), but doing this portrait (which is quite small, on a page in my art journal) has me convinced: I need new glasses!
