Day 9: A joint effort

My daughter Kayla came home for the weekend and told me she would like the three of us (she and my other daughter, Stacey, and I) to do today's art journal page together. We divided the page in three and did a section each, but hiding the parts that were done so we didn't see the result until the end. Here it is! (I wanted to title it "Sisters Are Doing It with Their Mom" -- but they didn't get the reference and thought it was creepy.)

Day 7: A Monumental Challenge

Well, maybe that's overstating it a bit, but this does seem to be all about monuments of various kinds. My challenge to myself was to go through the CAA magazine before chucking it in the blue bin, tear out any images that grabbed me, and put them together somehow.

Day 3: Feelin' Groovy

I went looking for inspiration among art supplies in the basement and found a piece of paper that I embossed some years ago (by putting it though a press with found objects). Threw some watercolours at it, including some special iridescent ones. The circular shape made me think of the full moon we had on Christmas Day, and the grooves in the paper are reminiscent of ribbons. So I will call it "Christmas Moon".

Day 1: Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway*

2016 begins today. I am committed to a year of art-making. I have been astounded at the negative "self-talk" resulting from this decision. But the only way to proceed is... to proceed.

Today: a quick pen and watercolour sketch of Kayla's orchid that she brought home from her dorm room for the holidays.
