OK, this is just silly.
"The House Across the Street" Art journal, watercolour.
I was working on a couple of my free-form, semi-abstract, loose tree paintings this morning (I hope to show you the finished pieces soon!), so for a change of pace I thought I would try some straight lines and perspective. This is part of the view from my "studio" (actually Kayla's bedroom!).

Feeling agitated, I put off doing my art journal page, until I decided that I should just try to express my agitation somehow. Once again, it was National Geographic to the rescue. I struggled with it, but both my daughters egged me on: "Just do it, mom." They are right, of course.

The CAA magazine used to go straight from the mailbox to the blue bin, but now I enjoy getting it. I still don't read it. I just do my "CAA magazine challenge": tear out whatever images grab me and put them together somehow. I never know where it's going to take me.
"Happy Birthday, San" Art journal, pencil
A portrait of my best friend, Sandra, on her birthday.
Lately I have been exploring different ways to apply frisket. Today I was spraying it with a toothbrush. It got pretty messy, and my fingers were covered with the stuff. And the thought came into my head: "What if I made a handprint with frisket?"

The title is a nod to my hero, Joni Mitchell. Her song "River" has become a Christmas standard, to my surprise (it's a great song, but it's so very sad!).
