Day 269

Day 269

My daughter Stacey is taking life drawing at school this year. She had a sketchbook assignment to draw someone sitting in front of her, i.e., from life, and suggested that we draw one another at the same time.

Day 268

"Pretty Little Apple"  Acrylic, 16 x 16"

Here is the acrylic painting that I promised you a few days ago. I'm kind of on a roll now with these acrylic still life pieces, as I get ready for a show that's going up on October 15 at the Lazy Daisy Cafe in my neighbourhood. Better late than never?

Day 267

"Family and Friends". Art journal, ink and watercolour

I spent a pleasant evening with my friend Peter and my daughter Stacey (Kayla put in a brief appearance too). At the end of it, Peter and Stacey took turns making marks on my journal page with my sketching pen. I then added some watercolour. The result is kinda Kandinsky-ish, I think.

Day 265

"Diane Doodle". Art journal, ink and watercolour

Doodled with my sketching pen while chatting with my sister Diane on the phone, then added some watercolour.

Day 264

Waste-not Whatnot. Art journal, acrylic

Here's a change from watercolour doodles: an acrylic doodle! I squeezed out too much paint onto my palette for my pear painting (because I'm out of practice!) and this is a good way to use it up.

Day 263

"Pretty Little Apple"  Art journal, watercolour.

A little watercolour sketch/study for another acrylic still life, coming soon.

Day 255

"Now I'm the Wrecking Ball"  Art journal, watercolour, graphite and ink

This was inspired by (a.k.a. shamelessly ripped off from) the lovely text-based work by Steve Rose featured at his show that opened today at the First Unitarian Church.

It features a lyric from a song called "Hollywood Movies and Fairytales" that I wrote years ago: "Isn't it insanity to go around in circles, bumping into walls, putting ceilings on reality? I was the architect. Now I'm the wrecking ball."

Day 251

"Shades of Lucille's Oxalis Triangularis"  Art journal, ink and watercolour

I started this by tracing the shadows that a potted plant was making on my journal page.
