Day 350

"Hello, Winter"  Watercolour, 8x8"

An interpretation of the cold and snow we had today. You can't really tell, but the paints I used are sparkly.

Day 349

"Furnace". Art journal, ink

I have rearranged my basement to make room for a "studio" space (where there's a will...). This evening I was down there casting about for inspiration when my gaze fell on the furnace. It suddenly caught my fancy (the way a picture of the innards of a lock did back on Day 104), so I drew it.

Day 348

Had a great time this evening singing with my "peeps", Duly Noted, in a concert called Love Lost. The heart image is from the front of the program.

Day 347

"Eruption". Art journal, watercolour

I was leafing through National Geographic magazines looking for images for a collage that would capture the mood I was in after catching up on the news, but to no avail. So instead I did this sketch based on one of the photographs that I liked. An accidental bloom of paint made one of the distant mountains look like a volcano about to erupt... and that did kind of capture my mood.

Day 346

"Neglected"  Art journal, mixed media

Long story short: I went away for too long between layers and forgot what I was doing, so there was a happy accident involved. The result reminds me of the artsy photos I used to take of peeling paint and such.

Day 339

Untitled. Pastel, 3 x 6"

I had a little scrap of pastel paper lying around, so I did this little imagined landscape/sunset on it.

Day 333

"Calla Lily"  Art journal, ink and watercolour

A blind contour drawing of the calla lily my friend Kevin gave me, with a bit of paint splashed on it, semi-blindly.

Day 332

"The Trouble with Normal". Art journal, mixed media

Lately, watching in disbelief as the new reality unfolds south of the border, I sometimes think of Bruce Cockburn and his politically charged songs. The "hook" of one of these is "The trouble with normal is it always gets worse," a lyric that comes to my mind when I see the media treating the president-elect and his inner circle as regular guys. This new "normal" is definitely worse.
