Day 530

I spent today's studio time on this "throw-away" piece. Some time ago I got it to to the stage where I peeled off all the masking; I didn't like it and put it aside. Now I am using it to do some experiments, such as adding washes over large areas (instead of the precise tweaking I usually do), and especially testing ways to mount/protect a watercolour without having to frame it under glass.

Day 528

Title TBD. Watercolour, 8 x 8"

My friend Jeni sent me a close-up photo of a colourful shrub she saw, because it reminded her of my layered forest paintings. It inspired me to try one using those colours.

Day 524

Finished off one of the little pieces (watercolour, 8 x 8") that I was using as a demo at the art show last weekend. Last step was adding a few brush strokes of purple for shadows; I did this with my eyes closed.

Day 521: Works in progress

I finished peeling the masking off these today, with the help of some patrons of the Riverdale Artwalk. I had fun chatting with people and explaining this crazy technique of mine. These need some refining now, but I'm in no hurry; I'm all watercoloured out for now!

Day 520

Today I was at the Riverdale Artwalk... and a lovely day it was. To demonstrate my technique to visitors, I peeled some masking off the small watercolours I've been working on ... so that little bit of progress is my art of the day. (They are not at hand for photographing; just take my word for it!)
