Day 410

On the eve of Valentine's Day, another heart notecard, this time done with acrylic and watercolour.

But you are receiving it on the day itself, so.... Happy Valentine's Day!

Day 409: CAA Magazine Challenge #6

"Things Will Work Out"  Art journal, magazine collage.

If you have been following my daily art adventures for a while, you may recall that when I receive the CAA Magazine in the mail, I make a collage from it. This time I was taken by a certain colour palette, and went for a simple patchwork of squares. But you could read a bit more into it. The title comes from the hand image; the fingers are crossed, which suggests that it's more a hope than a certainty that "things will work out". The images in the squares are not all right side up, suggesting a kind of disorder that does indeed need to be worked out.

Day 403

Here is a cutesy notecard. Some years ago I did a workshop in which we embossed paper by putting it through a press with found objects. I have some scraps left. For this piece of paper I used some kind of plastic clips that resembled fish, and some bits of wire, I think, for organic coral-like shapes. Tonight I painted it with watercolour (including sparkly pigments on the fish) and glued on some microbeads for pebbles.

Day 395

A quick sketch of the headstock of my guitar, which is a nod to my other creative endeavour today, composing music (well, working on a choral arrangement of a Joni Mitchell song).

Day 394

Day 394

I don't suppose this needs much explanation, but it's inspired by the ongoing (and escalating) horror show south of our border, especially the ban that just took effect.

Day 393

"Sun on Cream Carton"  Art journal, pencil

The clouds parted for a while today, and sunlight streamed in my kitchen window. I was struck by how it hit the cream carton sitting on the counter, so I drew it.

Day 392

"United We Stand"  Watercolour, 12 x 16"

Here is the painting I've been working on, another installment in my forest series. But I couldn't resist giving it a quasi-political title!

Day 391

I have come this far without ever posting a work in progress as my art of the day. Tonight I almost gave in to that temptation. Instead I give you this visceral little doodle inspired by photos of protests taking place tonight in New York City and Philadelphia.

"Resist". Art journal, ink

The new painting is almost done.... maybe tomorrow?
